What are bed curtains or bed draperies?
Bed curtains or bed draperies originated in times gone by and very popular in the Victorian era (think Ebezener Scrooge's bed in A Christmas Carol). Bed curtains & draperies were often used on canopy & four poster types and placed around the set on rods so that they could be spread completely around the entire piece or pulled back to provide a decorative accent during the day. In those days, the fabrics used around the canopy or four poster bed were heavy jacquards or velvets in order to keep out drafts, but today they are made of much lighter cottons of voile and are mostly decorative in use. Also, the draperies or curtains can be used where no four poster or canopy is in place by hanging rods on the back wall or attached to the ceiling for a unique decorating effect.
